The BBC Checks in on Recovery Progress - Updated

Aug. 24, 2010 3:40 pm
Northwest sider Linda Seger reports that a journalist from the BBC was making the rounds last week in Cedar Rapids. He's working on a story updating recovery progress on several U.S. natural disasters, including the flood of 2008.
The reporter, who is based in Washington, D.C., talked with Seger for two hours on Thursday and Friday about the ongoing recovery and how she rebuilt her flooded home. He also talked with city Flood Recovery Director Greg Eyerly and flooded-out Time Check homeowner Rick Davis.
Seger said the reporter also planned to talk with City Council member Chuck Wieneke and tour the Sinclair plant site. No word on when the story will be aired or where we can hear it.
UPDATE -- Eyerly sent me an e-mail with the details:
The story should air in the next couple of days. The TV version will be 4-7 minutes – the online version likely longer, they were contrasting our recovery with Katrina. (Reporter Franz Strasser) spent two days here interviewing:Before I dropped off Franz he said, “I came here with an idea of a story that I would tell, frankly after two days of interviews, I am having a hard time getting my mind around it all….I don't know how I will tell this story.”
Rick Davis – Flood impacted in the buyout program and relocated.
Linda – Flood impacted, not in buyout program, not relocated, not getting much assistance in Federal money.
Small Business – I had him interview 6 local small business owners in a round robin interview at the Blue Strawberry
Councilmen Wieneke
John Riggs project manager out at Sinclair and House Demos
