So What Are the New Rules?

Jan. 20, 2009 8:18 am
NPR was spewing lots of chatty inaugural coverage this am. My children were half-listening as they dabbled in Cheerios and oatmeal. My 3-year-old likes to say "Barack Obama" and did so with abandon.
Then my seven-year-old asks "So, Dad, what are the new rules now?"
I say, "What do you mean?"
She says, "We've got a new president. Something's got to change. Geez. So what are they?" (Eyes rolling.)
Leave it to the First Grader to ask the big question.
I said the first new official rule is eating all your breakfast, and keeping your hands off of your sister. I said other new rules will be announced as they become relevant.
I don't think she bought it. She then proceeded to break the first official rule. Obama's got his work cut out for him, folks.
