Short Strange Trip

Apr. 4, 2008 8:35 am
This blog is now 4 months old. And after a whole third of a year, and I still have no real idea what it's about.
It's been an interesting experiment, so far. As a columnist, I have no real "beat," other than Cedar Rapids, the state of Iowa and the known universe. I'm not exclusively a government columnist or a political pundit or a slice-of-life ponderer, or a superficial hack, although I've played all of them in the newspaper. That vocational schizophrenia is also reflected on this small slice of the Internet.
And while I, the blogger, have confused you with my disorganized and scattered approach to online scribbling, you, the reader, have apparently embraced my non-linear style. Just look at the top 5 posts since I started in early December.
1. Today's Word -- Nomophobia (Brief thoughts on a new affliction suffered by people who get anxious when they're out of cell phone range)
2. Clinton Spends $95,000 at Hy-Vee(Link to NY Post story detailing Hillary's extravagant spending at a WDM Hy-Vee before the caucuses)
3. Favorite Bars (A list of great dives)
4. Friday Night at Blend (Account of a December dinner at Blend in CR)
5. Critical Beer Question of the Week. (This week's desperate plea for directions to the nearest Grain Belt Premium retailer.)
So, trendy illnesses, political foibles, food and booze. My favorite subjects. Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Here's to four more months.
