'Obamacare' top word uttered by Iowans in Congress

Dec. 12, 2011 1:21 pm
There's an interesting (now revamped) online site, Capitol Words, created by the Sunlight Foundation, which tracks the words and phrases uttered by representatives and senators in Congress since 1996, using the Congressional Record.
For Iowa's delegation 'Obamacare' is a runaway No. 1, beating even 'corn.'
Here's the top ten:
1. Obamacare
2. Ethanol
3. Iowa
4. HMO
5. Corn
6. Medicare
7. Baucus
8. Doesn't
9. Overtime
10. Drugs
It looks like Steve King is pushing Obamacare to No. 1. It's tops by a wide margin on his word list, followed by `ACORN' and `illegals.'
At the other end of the partisan spectrum, Sen. Tom Harkin's No. 1 word is 'Iowa,' followed by 'Harkin' (So modest) and 'overtime.'
Instead of talking about himself. Sen. Chuck Grassley's top word is "Baucus," the last name of Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, a Democrat who has worked with Grassley on several high-profile measures.
Bruce Braley's list is topped by 'Waterloo," Dave Loebsack says 'Iowa's,' a lot, Leonard Boswell's No. 1 is 'Rathbun,' and Tom Latham's list is led by 'Iowa.'
Real time-killer for politics geeks. Check it out.
