Homeland Security Sec. Coming to CR

Gov. Chet Culver and U.S. Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano will make stops in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Wednesday to talk flood relief.

CULVER, JUDGE ANNOUNCE DHS SECRETARY NAPOLITANO TO VISIT IOWA WEDNESDAY

DES MOINES - On Wednesday, the new Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, will travel to Iowa to view the effects of last year's natural disasters, Governor Chet Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge announced today.

"Though seven months have passed, the effects of the storms and floods of 2008 are still being felt," said Governor Culver. "Businesses are closed, homes are empty, and public buildings are damaged or destroyed. Lt. Governor Judge and I look forward to showing Sec. Napolitano the challenges that Iowans still face and know that she will be a great partner as our state's rebuilding efforts continue."

Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Judge will lead the Secretary to two of the hardest hit areas in the state - Cedar Rapids and Iowa City/Coralville. During meetings with local officials, they will discuss the progress that has been made and the needs that still exist throughout the flood-affected region.
