Killed a little time paging through the state budget book Gov. Terry Branstad's staff dropped off Friday. A few interesting nuggets:
Annual Medicaid cost, per client served (380,749 clients) -- $9,038 ($2,166 state share)
Annual Child Welfare cost per client (8,366 clients) -- $10,586 ($5,015 state share)
Family Investment Program cost per-client (44,681 clients) -- $1,565 ($608 state share)
Annual cost per-inmate at state correctional facilities -- $30,456
Cost-per inmate at the Iowa State Penitentiary, annually -- $43,055
State spending per public school pupil, FY 2011 -- $7,881
Per voluntary preschool pupil -- $2,206
Per community college student -- $1,948
Per state university student -- $10,233
Number of State Employees - 42,171
State workers employed by Regents universities - 20,251
