Flood Inundation Maps

Mar. 23, 2011 2:58 pm
The Iowa Flood Center has flood inundation maps on its website for Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and a few other Iowa communities. The maps allow you to set a river crest level and see how extensive flooding would be at different levels.
It's fascinating and frightening. You can raise the Cedar River at CR up to 34 feet, or nearly 3 feet above 2008. Scary.
But it's also interesting to see the impact of floods below the 2008 crest, like at 25 feet etc. At 25 feet, CR flooding is very exstensive.
