CR Leaders tell Register 'survival of the city' at stake

Feb. 15, 2011 12:17 pm
Cedar Rapids leaders who are in Des Moines to make their pitch for flood protection met with reporters and editors at The Des Moines Register.
They predicted dire consequences if the state doesn't invest in a full-scale flood protection plan preferred by city leaders. Mayor Ron Corbett said investment on both sides of the Cedar River depends on protection. City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said "survival of the second-largest city in Iowa is at stake."
A local executive painted the darkest scenario, according to the paper.
“We will turn into Detroit if we don't protect both sides of the river,” said John Bloomhall, chief executive officer of Diamond V, a supplier of animal nutrition products.
I hope that doesn't mean we get the Lions.
