So I've returned from sunny Florida to sunny Iowa.
Took the family tribe cross country with all the joys, tantrums and fatigue that sort of thing entails. Hit the beach on Sanibel Island, took in a Twins spring training game (pretty good seats, above), sampled some fine Atlanta traffic. My sunburn is finally fading. My gas pedal foot is no longer numb. Our minivan is still filled with sand and lost french fries. My kids brought home 1.5 metric tons of sea shells. My wife and I are still speaking. Very successful, all in all.
We left in March and came back, apparently, in June. Wonderful and weird, this St. Patrick's summer. Not often that an appropriate mid-March wardrobe in southwest Florida transfers so seamlessly to Eastern Iowa. That's 1,400 miles of short pants.
I wouldn't be a true Iowan, however, if I wasn't a little worried that it's all an elaborate trap, designed to dupe everything in my yard into believing the coast is clear. Put away your sweaters (bwahahahaha) And I sort of like being able to plant our garden before it's completely covered with weeds, as it is right now. Guess I'm a traditionalist. I've got to get with the climate.
I'll be plowing through emails and trying to remember what it is I do for much of today. If there's anything important I missed during my vacation, please fill me in.
