Zero Kernels, 2 West players on MWL all-star team

Not terribly surprising considering the season they've had, but there were no Cedar Rapids Kernels players selected for the postseason Midwest League All-Star team, which was announced Monday.

The lone possibility would have been left-handed relief pitcher Dakota Robinson, who leads the Kernels with 10 victories, to go along with seven saves and an earned run average under 3.00. But that spot went to Bowling Green's Chris Rearick instead.

There were only two players from the Western Division voted to the 13-man all-star team: designated hitter Josh Whitaker of Burlington and right-handed starting pitcher Greg Billo of Kane County. Fort Wayne outfielder Rymer Liriano was named the league's Player of the Year and Prospect of the Year.

Lansing's Mike Redmond is the Manager of the Year. The entire team was selected via vote of the 16 league managers.
