Zach Johnson ties for 6th at British Open

Jul. 21, 2013 12:03 pm
Cedar Rapids' Zach Johnson had his third-highest finish in a major golf tournament Sunday when he tied for 6th-place at the British Open at Muirfield.
Johnson had a final-round 72 for a total of 2-over 290. That was five shots behind champion Phil Mickelson, who roared to the title with a 66 Sunday.
So to recap, Johnson played in a five-hole sudden death playoff a week ago in the Quad Cities, flew all the way to Scotland, matched the lowest round in this year's Open Championship with his first-round 66, and was in contention for the title until the final couple holes.
That's kind of strong.
Johnson's top finishes in majors:
1st: 2007 Masters
Tie for 3rd: 2010 PGA Championship
Tie for 6th: 2013 British Open
Tie for 9th: 2012 British Open
Tie for 10th: 2009 PGA Championship
