Dubuque Wahlert expected an angry Cedar Rapids Xavier team on Friday night.
But after coming out and punching the Iowa Class 3A No. 6-ranked Saints right in the mouth on its opening drive, it was all downhill for Wahlert from there.
Jay Kortemeyer carried 20 times for 207 yards and three touchdowns, and the Saints rebounded from an upset loss to Western Dubuque last week with a 41-12 thumping of the Golden Eagles at Loras College's Rock Bowl.
Following the 7-6 home loss to the Bobcats last week, the Saints (5-2, 4-1 Class 3A District 4) were chomping at the bit to get back out on the field, and its showed against the Golden Eagles (2-5, 2-2).
'Football is a sport where you've got to wait a week before you can play another game, unlike basketball or baseball where you get that next at-bat or next game quickly,' Xavier coach Duane Schulte said. 'This week these guys wanted to get a game going so it was good to come up here and get a win.'
After falling into an early 6-0 hole, the Saints rallied for 41 unanswered points to runaway from Wahlert. Xavier rolled up 383 total yards of offense, with 286 coming on the ground.
