CEDAR RAPIDS — Xavier High School has announced that Steve Lueck has been selected as its next athletics director.
Lueck succeeds Mike Winker, who has been Xavier's only AD since the school's opening in 1998.
Lueck currently serves as the principal and activities director at Storm Lake St. Mary's, where he began his tenure in 2013.
Prior to his work there, he taught social studies and served as the head wrestling coach Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst.
Lueck is a native of Dyersville where he graduated from Beckman High School. He earned his B.A. from Loras College, his M.A. from the Northwest Missouri State University and his Ed.S. from the University of Kansas City Missouri.
'We are excited to welcome Steve to the Xavier community,' said Xavier principal Tom Keating. 'His experience as a teacher, coach, activities director and principal gives him a unique perspective of the important role that activities play in the high school experience.
'We are also blessed that such an outstanding candidate has been connected to Catholic schools most of his life. His understanding of the role that faith plays in all of our programs is a true benefit.'
Lueck will begin his official duties on July 1.
