[Women's Golf] Mustangs battle weather to place fifth at MCC Championship

RIVERSIDE, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's golf team battled difficult weather conditions to finish fifth at the 27-hole Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship last weekend at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.
Ashford claimed its first-ever conference title in a tight battle with Grand View, St. Ambrose and Viterbo (Wis.). The Saints won the 27-hole event and earned an automatic berth in the NAIA Women's Golf Championship with a 565 team total. The Vikings were right on their heels at 567, followed by the Queen Bees at 569 and the V-Hawks at 570. The Mustangs (608) were fifth, Clarke was sixth (617), William Penn seventh (629) and Iowa Wesleyan eighth (640).
Nicole McDonald of Grand View was medalist and qualfied individually for the NAIA national meet with a 125 total. Brittany Boon of Ashford was second (131), Caiti Childers of St. Ambrose third (137), Jordan Davis of Ashford fourth (138) and Amalia Mejia of Grand View fifth (139). Mount Mercy freshman Anna Kallqvist finished eighth at 143.
Also competing in the 47-person field for the Mustangs were junior Laura Wilberg (T15th/149), freshman Anna Bachman (T29th/157), sophomore Bailee Goodfellow (34th/161), freshman Kelsey Kernan (T38th/164) and junior Kristine Kouba (44th/170).
Mount Mercy completes its spring schedule on Thursday at the Augustana (Ill.) Invitational at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport.
