West's Nick Moore signs LOI

Nov. 11, 2009 11:15 am
Iowa City West Nick Moore sat down to the table and didn't say much other than asking for a pen. He then began the ceremony of signing a National Letter of Intent to wrestle next year at the University of Iowa and coach Tom Brands.Moore, ranked second in the nation at 160 pounds by InterMat, will attempt to become just the 19th 4-time state champion. He has been one of the top preps since he stepped foot in the Trojans wrestling room. He has amassed a 131-1 career mark, winning Class 3A titles at 130 and 140 as a freshman and sophomore, respectively. He was 49-0 as a junior, claiming the 152-pound championship. He's won 99 straight matches. He likes the Hawkeye staff and said they can help him to the level he aspires to reach.
Moore's signing isn't a surprise given the pipeline of West wrestlers who have joined the Hawkeyes in recent years, including his brother Nate, who is a red-shirt freshman for Iowa. He discussed how loves the coaches' passion and how wrestling in college was a dream which now leads to the Dan Gable Wrestling Complex at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa City West Coach Mark Reiland shares his thoughts about Moore's ability and how we fits into the Hawkeye program.
