IOWA STATE (5-0, 2-0) AT CINCINNATI (3-1, 1-0)
Where to watch Iowa State at Cincinnati: Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 AM ESPN2
Line: Cincinnati (-1.5)
Mike Hlas (2-1, 11-4) — The Cyclones are going through cornerbacks like Spinal Tap goes through drummers. Cincinnati 24, Iowa State 21
Madison Hricik (2-1, 10-5) — Cyclones undefeated no more. Cincinnati 32, Iowa State 28
Jeff Johnson (1-2, 9-6) — This game will be broadcast locally on WKRP. Johnny Fever will do play by play, with Les Nessman on color. Iowa State 28, Cincinnati 24
Rob Gray (3-0, 12-3) — Expect plenty of points to be scored in this one. The Cyclones have coaxed several playmakers to emerge in the passing game for quarterback Rocco Becht. Iowa State 35, Cincinnati 31
Beth Malicki (2-1, 10-5) — Remember when I mocked Ohio in these pick ’ems? I’m still getting hate. So I’ll just let Iowa State’s win do the talking. Iowa State, 24, Cincinnati 20
K.J. Pilcher (2-1, 10-5) — Dr. Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap will provide music between each possession. Luckily, it’s not November. Cyclones won’t be pelted with falling turkeys. Iowa State 24, Cincinnati 20
NORTH DAKOTA (2-2, 0-0) AT UNI (2-2, 0-0)
Where to watch: Saturday, October 4 at 4:00 PM ESPN+ (Subscription)
Line: NA
Hlas — If the government shutdown still is going on as you read this, we’ll have no choice but to close one of the Dakotas. North Dakota 31, UNI 17
Hricik — I’m here for the FCS midseason chaos, that’s one of the best parts of that subdivision. North Dakota 35. UNI 21
Johnson — Is Grand Forks, N.D., really grand? Or is it false advertising. North Dakota 28, UNI 19
Gray — If the Panthers are to reassert themselves as anything approaching an FCS power, they must win games like this. The Fighting Hawks (2-2) nearly beat Kansas State on the road a week after the Wildcats returned from a loss to Iowa State in Dublin, bet they seem ripe for the picking. UNI 27, North Dakota 24
Malicki — Today I turn 49 and can say with each passing year I care more about laughing and less about my laugh lines. But to be clear, I still care about those lines and will fight them with creams, salves and more sleep than is necessary. North Dakota 35, UNI 17
Pilcher — North Dakota has lost games to Kansas State and No. 5 Montana by a combined four points. The fourth-best FCS football program in the Dakotas is better than the third-best D-I football program in Iowa. North Dakota 44, UNI 27
MICHIGAN STATE (3-1, 0-1) AT NEBRASKA (3-1, 0-1)
Where to watch: Saturday, October 4 at 3:00 PM Fox Sports
Line: Nebraska (-11.5)
Hlas — Last week, a panelist here made a reference to her menopause. That gave me the courage to have a frank discussion with you about my prostate. For mature audiences only. (Continued on Page 13B). Nebraska 33, Michigan State 25
Hricik — Somewhere in middle America … the Cornhuskers pull out a Big Ten win. Nebraska 31, Michigan State 21
Johnson — I’ve always wondered this. What do you do when Hulk-A-Mania runs wild on you? Nebraska 35, Michigan State 10
Gray — Normally, one would think this would amount to a defensive battle based on historical data. Not this time. Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola will have to shine for the Cornhuskers to avoid a damaging loss at home, and I think he’ll do just that. Nebraska 38, Michigan State 27
Malicki — I know a lot of people think kids need to know cursive to survive in life. I don’t care about that, but I’ll pay more in taxes if it means graduates know the proper usage of possessive apostrophes. Nebraska 31, Michigan State 24
Pilcher — I drove to the end of nowhere. It was cold, desolate and void of civility. The sign said, “Nebraska: next three exits.” Nebraska 37, Michigan State 31
