DES MOINES -- Solon's Dalton Ferguson broke 60 feet on the final throw of his high school shot put career. He won a state championship in the process.
Ferguson's coach snapped a photo of the scoreboard as it displayed his final distance: 60-00.75.
Ferguson swept the Drake Relays and state tournament shot put titles this season. Solon's Shelby Gunnells swept the girls' titles as well. Ferguson credited the pair's success to the team's throwing coach.
Waukon's Seth Snitker came in second with a throw of 55-11.25. Washington's Tommy Peterson took third at 53-04.75.
