Video Sessions Part 1

Video 1 — Opener, including medical news (WR Riley McCarron out with mono).
1:07 -- On Wisconsin defense
2:16 -- What Wisconsin defense does on first and second downs (third down it gets cray cray)
2:49 -- You kind of forget that UW plays two QBs (Joe Stave is the passer; Tanner McEvoy is the runner)
3:26 -- History of UW running backs. Melvin Gordon might be the best. Great personality, wants the ball in big games.
Video 2 — Starts with question on Iowa and its recruitment of RB Melvin Gordon. I personally don't think it's much of a storyline because it's ancient history. I also don't think his family was ever going to allow him to leave Wisconsin. And he committed super, super early, and that just leaves the door open, especially for a hardcore competitor like Bret Bielema. Wisconsin had the inside track. It always did.
And then more stuff on recruiting.
1:36 -- How ridiculous was Gordon's 400 against Nebraska? On the Iowa RB jinx. There's no luck involved, but really there is some in staying healthy. That's what's said here.
2:17 -- What does Iowa have to do to attack Wisconsin's 3-4? We get into what Wisconsin does on D.
3:10 -- Most 3-4s have an active OLB. KF said there are all kinds of 3-4s and Wisconsin's has a lot of flexibility as far as who brings the pressure.
3:45 -- Question on UW's QBs Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy.
Video 3 — On stopping Melvin Gordon: 'It's going to take perfect football from all 11 positions. I don't want to say that, but . . .'
:38 -- What's out there for the Hawkeyes? The players know, but it's not worth talking about. KF said the talk is kind of like trying to predict which bowl you're going to. It doesn't mean much. Saturday means everything.
1:21 -- Iowa DE Nate Meier vs. UW OT Rob Havenstein. 'My suggestion would be to stay real low.'
2:03 -- Question on former UW coach and now AD Barry Alvarez and how he built the Wisconsin football program. It's true. Give it up, the man had a plan and it's still ka-chunking away, same way it's been since the mid-'90s.
3:15 -- What's separated UW from the average college football program? In a word, continuity.
'When things don't work out quite the way they've wanted it to, they don't sell the farm and go buy a new one.'
Video 4 (below) — Iowa and UW do have some similarities. Big change at Iowa came in the late 1970s, that was Hayden. Alvarez started the hammering at Wisconsin in 1990. KF also mentions Bill Snyder, who had the highest degree of difficulty.
:46 -- Iowa's defensive backs this week have to tackle. The ball is going to get to them and they are going to have to tackle.
1:23 -- On former or maybe future WR Derrick Willies.
'I got asked that earlier, and you've got to excuseme, I was working all day today. I haven't had a chance to get on the message boards and stuff. I'm really worried about getting our team, the guys on the team right now ready for this ballgame. That's where my thoughts are right now. We have another game coming up right afterwards. That's where my focus is.'
1:59 -- Question on Wisconsin's roster management at RB. It's actually pretty incredible. Gordon was a third-stringer his freshman season.
2:21 -- On being a home underdog at Kinnick.
Q. Not often you're an underdog at it's your home stadium.
COACH FERENTZ: Not often we're playing a team that just had a guy go 400 yards on the ground. All you have to do is look at the stats, they score 40 a game, and give up 15. My guess is
they are going to be favored in a lot of ballgames.
2:43 -- On the respectful series between Iowa and Wisconsin.
4:00 -- Wisconsin and its formula for giant O-lineman and how and why that works for Wisconsin.
5:00 -- Iowa could've packed it in after the Minnesota game. It didn't and now it has a chance to have a say in its fate.
5:36 -- Hey, the TEs last week. Iowa has been a better team this year when it's spread the ball around. 'We don't have anyone who's going to rush for 400 yards.'
6:14 -- Is the thought that Iowa's OL hasn't played well wrong?
'We've had some inconsistency at every position, including the line. Guys have had a great attitude. Sometimes, we're not in sync.'
7:25 -- On Weisman, what he was, what he's become, how he keeps going. 'Almost too good to be true.'
8:32 -- On Quinton Alston at MLB or WLB.
9:30 -- They always talk about getting off blocks. Is that simply the thing on Saturday?
