Video No. 1 - Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker gives a breakdown of the defensive position battles. Sounds as though LB is more fluid than we might imagine. On FS Jordan Lomax, who's making the switch from corner this spring. Don't discount sophomore Greg Mabin in the corner race. Parker said he's made a lot of plays this spring. On the 'Raider” package. Parker talks how it came about after last year's Ohio State game and how it could evolve with Iowa's current personnel. Maybe a nickel raider? Importance of football IQ. On the competition at DE between Mike Hardy and Nate Meier. On sacks and what they may or may not mean now. I asked if he saw any of the five defensive backs coming in as part of the defense. He said no. Parker likes the depth with four corners fighting for time (Desmond King, Sean Draper, Maurice Fleming and Mabin), and he cited the competition between Lomax and senior Nico Law
at safety. Parker is satisfied with secondary depth.
Video No. 2 - More on safety depth and potential there. Why didn't Iowa use much nickel last season? OLB Christian Kirksey's versatility kept him on the field. You'll want to hear about what Kirksey was able to do. Also, Parker talks about sophomore LB Reggie Spearman. He's been in and out this spring, so redshirt freshman Josey Jewell
has gotten to the field more. Parker has really liked what he's seen out of the Decorah native.
