Video: IndyCar driver Hideki Mutoh cooking in Cedar Rapids

Jun. 17, 2010 6:06 pm
IZOD IndyCar race car driver Hideki Mutoh visited Cedar Rapids for a luncheon with local media members at Osaka Japanese Steakhouse before this weekend's Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Newton's Iowa Speedway. The race is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday and will be televised on VERSUS.
Mutoh, a native of Tokyo, Japan, has had success at the Iowa Speedway in his young IndyCar career. Mutoh finished second in 2008 and third in 2009. He has reason to like Iowa.
Mutoh displayed his fun and out-going personality Thursday. Many of his answers were accompanied with a smile and on more than one occasion he managed to get those in attendance to chuckle. Everyone there were very interested of the possibility of watching the IndyCar racer do a little cooking behind the teppanyaki grill and fling around a little food. He did just that, but not without warning. An example of his humor.
"I'm not a very good cook at all," Mutoh said. "Maybe mess everything up."

Mutoh, who currently resides in Chicago, will be racing in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 in Newton this weekend. Mutoh finished in third place last year and second place the year before. Mutoh said he grew up with a Go Kart and watched Indy car racing as a teenager – and it became his dream to one day race in the series. (Julie Koehn/SourceMedia Group News)
