CEDAR RAPIDS -- Another offer has come in for Daniel Vega.A bigger one. A better one. And Vega has taken it.Cedar Rapids Xavier all-state football player confirmed via Twitter on Friday that he has accepted an offer to play football for the University of Wyoming.Vega had committed with FCS school Illinois State, with the caveat that he would change his mind if an FBS offer came along. It did.A defensive tackle, Vega was a cornerstone for a Cedar Rapids Xavier defense that allowed a Class 4A-best 8.0 points per game and posted eight shutouts this season as the Saints went 12-2 and returned to the 4A championship game. He was the Gazette/KCRG defensive player of the year.Vega collected 60 tackles, including 19 for loss and six sacks. He moved from linebacker to defensive tackle this season."It was a really closely-knit unit," Vega said in December. "We didn't yell at each other, except when we were giving each other a hard time."Vega will have four more years with teammate Cole Turner, who committed with the Cowboys just before Christmas. Another Xavier player, Matt Nelson, will play at the University of Iowa.
