The fundraising efforts of Van Meter Industrial, Inc., resulted in a nice gift for the "Aiming For A Cure Foundation, which helps pediatric oncology patients and their families with funding for research and treatment.
The employee-owned company in Cedar Rapids sponsored the weekly points races at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on May 21, providing fans a chance to attend the races for a monetary donation of their choice. Fans were treated to seven divisions of racing and a charity Legends car exhibition race between VMI President Barry Boyer, Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett and radio personality Bob Bruce. Boyer won the race and Bruce ended up with a shaved head for finishing last.
Most importantly, Van Meter was able to present a check to the charity for a whopping $6,042.80.
