Valley continues surprising run

DES MOINES - Give West Des Moines Valley credit. It has really taken advantage of the huge break it received at the state basketball tournament.The Tigers never trailed in a 53-49 Class 4A semifinal win over Sioux City North on Friday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena. A seventh seed, Valley (17-8) plays Iowa City West on Saturday night at 8:05 for the championship.You might remember Valley was the recipient of a controversial foul call with a half-second remaining that helped it win its quarterfinal over Dubuque Senior, 42-41, Wednesday. Sophomore guard Turner Scott hit a trio of treys and scored 20 points Friday to lift the Tigers.Quinton Curry chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Valley was able to significantly slow down the 4A field's highest-scoring team, holding North (22-4) a whopping 25 points under its season average.Daniel Tillo led the Stars with 16 points.
