Former Iowa basketball players Jarrod Uthoff and Adam Woodbury may be on opposing teams in a month.
On Nov. 29, Raptors 905 hosts the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in an NBA D-League game in Mississauga, Ontario, just outside Toronto.
Uthoff is listed on the training camp roster of Raptors 905, the Toronto Raptors' D-League affiliate. He was waived by Toronto before the NBA season started, having played just eight minutes in the Raptors' preseason games.
Woodbury was one of 182 players who made themselves eligible for Sunday's D-League player draft, and was a first-round selection of the Maine Red Claws and the 20th player taken overall.
Maine promptly had a trade with the Mad Ants that sent Woodbury's rights to them.
Another former Hawkeye is on a D-League training camp roster. Matt Gatens has signed with the Iowa Energy of Des Moines.
Gatens, an Iowa City native, last played for the Hawkeyes in the 2011-12 season. He has played professionally in Spain, the Ukraine, Turkey and France.
Other players on D-League rosters are Paul Jesperson of Northern Iowa (Rio Grande Valley Vipers), Abdel Nader of Iowa State (Maine) and Marcus Paige of Linn-Mar High/North Carolina (Salt Lake City Stars).
The D-League season opens Nov. 11. The Iowa Energy's home-opener is Nov. 19.
Uthoff and Woodbury were two of the four senior starters on last season's Iowa team. The others, Anthony Clemmons and Mike Gesell, have begun playing careers in Europe.
Clemmons is averaging 20.2 points and 4.4 assists through five games with BC Hallman Vienna in Austria.
Gesell is averaging 13.8 points and 5.2 points through four games with Bakken in Denmark.
