Use of an ineligible player has forced the WACO football team to forfeit its win last Friday night against North Mahaska, according to the school.WACO beat North Mahaska, 39-0, but self-reported to the Iowa High School Athletic Association that it used a player not eligible to compete under "Scholarship Rule" IAC 36.15(2). The player also participated in WACO's first-week loss to Columbus Junction, and that score (21-16) will stand as is.North Mahaska will officially be awarded a 1-0 victory. Individual statistics from both games will count."This individual, along with two others, were identified by the head coach at the start of practice on August 12 as not being eligible," said WACO As the weeks of preseason practice continued, he forgot about thestatus of this player as he was not a varsity player. The athlete was then put into the game in thesecond half of each of the two reported games. The JV coaching staff was not aware of the status of this individual. In the future, I as AD, will make sure that all coaching staffs identify these individuals and make surethey do not participate in interscholastic competitions. Our principal will also double check the list andcheck with the coaching staff of each sport so they know who is not eligible
