WATERLOO (AP) - The Northern Iowa men's basketball team has returned home after stunning top-ranked Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers arrived at the Waterloo airport around 2 a.m. Sunday and were greeted by weary but exuberant fans, who were allowed on the tarmac. They cheered the players and coaches and sang the UNI fight song,
The Panthers' flight had been delayed, and Ali Farokhmanesh (fah-ROHK'-ma-NESH') was overwhelmed by the fans' reaction.
Farokhmanesh sank a 3-pointer in the closing minute to help Northern Iowa stun the Jayhawks 69-67 on Saturday in Oklahoma City and advance to the regional semifinals for the first time.
UNI plays Michigan State on Friday in St. Louis.
