UNI forward Carlson facing OWI charge
Jul. 6, 2015 6:33 pm
Northern Iowa forward Klint Carlson is facing a charge of operating under the influence after a traffic stop and subsequent arrest on June 20.
Carlson, entering his third season as a Panther after redshirting in his first season, was pulled over in his hometown of Waverly at 11:55 p.m. on June 20 in a routine traffic stop by a Bremer County Sheriff's Deputy. Carlson failed a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested. He was then booked into the Bremer County Jail at 2:15 a.m. on June 21.
UNI Coach Ben Jacobson declined to comment on the arrest or charge and said he would let the legal system run its course before addressing the issue.
Carlson averaged 0.6 points and 0.5 rebounds per game in his redshirt freshman campaign last season for the Panthers. He figures to be in the main rotation for UNI's big men in the 2015-16 season.
He becomes the second UNI player or recruit to be arrested and charged with OWI this offseason. Carlson joins incoming junior college transfer Aarias Austin, who was arrested and charged with OWI and possession of a controlled substance after an arrest in Ames on May 1.
The precedent for OWI convictions has been a three-game suspension under Jacobson.
