IOWA CITY - Power forward Tyler Cook committed to Iowa on Wednesday night, becoming the fourth member of Iowa's 2016 men's basketball class.
Cook wrote on Twitter, 'It's a great day to be a Hawkeye” in all capital letters. He also tweeted a picture of himself with Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the background with the phrase 'Let's Get Cook'in.”
Cook was a Class 5 all-state selection last spring from Chaminade in the St. Louis area. He also played AAU basketball for the St. Louis Eagles.
Cook, who stands 6-foot-9, averaged 13 points and six rebounds a game last year alongside the nation's top high school player, Jayson Tatum. Cook was ranked a four-star recruit by Rivals, which rates him 82nd overall. According to Rivals, Cook's offer list included Kansas, Iowa State, Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan, Purdue among several others. Ultimately, Cook chose Iowa over Florida.
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery and assistant coach Sherm Dillard visited Cook on Wednesday, which happened to be his birthday. He committed with the coaches in attendance and an Hawkeye cake was presented to him. Cook took his official visit to campus last weekend.
Iowa now has commitments for every available scholarship. Other Iowa 2016 commits include Dubuque Wahlert forward Cordell Pemsl, Linn-Mar point guard Jordan Bohannon and Spirit Lake center Ryan Kriener.
