Cedar Rapids Washington (13-8) vs. Iowa City High (10-12) at U.S. Cellular Center, 6:30 p.m.: These teams played in Rivalry Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center on Jan. 30, with City High winning, 77-63. Their seasons took opposite turns after that. Washington hasn't lost since, winning seven straight, including a 43-41 substate semifinal victory last Friday night against Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Josh Oglesby hit a long 3-pointer to win the game, and he leads the Warriors in scoring at 16.1 ppg. Point guard Wes Washpun is second at 15.0 ... City High lost six straight to end the regular season but rebounded for a 42-41 overtime win over Iowa City West in the substate semifinals. Senior guard John Chelf is the lone Little Hawk averaging double figures (10.3 ppg) and he hit the game-winning free throw against West. These teams also played Jan. 8 at Washington, with the Warriors winning, 70-40.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson (17-4) vs. Cedar Falls (16-5) at UNI's McLeod Center, 7 p.m.: Another rematch from the regular season, Jefferson winning at home in mid-January, 65-48. The J-Hawks are looking to make it to the state tournament for the first time since 1999. They escaped Marshalltown in the substate semifinals, 66-65, getting a game-winning 3-pointer from Joby Frey in the waning seconds. Jefferson is led by 6-foot-8 junior center Jarrod Uthoff, who shoots 55 percent from the field and averages 21.6 ppg and 10.1 rebounds ... Cedar Falls has one of the better young guards around in sophomore James Harrington, who leads his team in scoring (18.7 ppg). More of a penetrator than shooter, Harrington is hitting 53.6 percent of his shot, only taking 17 3-pointers.
Linn-Mar (21-1) vs. Pleasant Valley (17-7) at U.S. Cellular Center, 8 p.m.: Linn-Mar is looking for its seventh straight state tournament appearance. The Lions have won 20 straight games after a loss in their second game of the season to Bettendorf. It'll be interesting to see if and how much sophomore point guard Marcus Paige plays. He has been out with mononucleosis. Paige averages 14.6 ppg and is hitting a staggering 58 percent of his field goals. Junior guard Matt Bohannon leads L-M in scoring at 17.2 ppg ... Pleasant Valley will likely play a deliberate style. Senior Mitch Michaelis (16.8 ppg) is the lone Spartan averaging more than 6.7 ppg. PV has beaten Dubuque Hempstead (55-42) and North Scott (57-44) in substate thus far.
