BGM averages 9.5 runs per game and leads the state in stolen bases (287). BGM avenged a loss in last year's substate finals by downing North Tama in a district final Saturday night, 8-2. He threw a complete game in BGM's district final, allowing 10 hits but striking out 11. Van Meter has rolled through its first three postseason opponents by a whopping 35-2 margin. Junior Brandon Brittain has been outstanding, compiling a .555 batting average, 16 home runs and 64 RBIs offensively, and a 7-1 pitching record and 1.38 ERA. DON BOSCO vs. TURKEY VALLEY

Scouting Report: Turkey Valley went into the postseason with a losing record but won a district championship with wins over East Buchanan, Starmont and ranked Lansing Kee. That latter victory was 3-2 and came in large part to Riley Busta's complete-game four-hitter. TV's leading hitter, Luke Kuennen, has missed the last half of the season with a shoulder injury. Two of Don Bosco's three district games were decided by a run. The 1-2 pitching punch of Travis Havel and Tyler Backes have combined to go 14-2 with a 1.18 earned run average. TV hasn't been to the state tournament since 1999. The Trojans won the Class 3A title in 1985. Don Bosco has been to state four times (including a 1A championship in 1978), the last time in 2010.
