Larry Niemeyer's magic number remains at 9.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson was swept by Iowa City West, 1-0 and 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball double-header Thursday.
The winningest coach in national history, Niemeyer is 1,991-410 in 50 seasons.
Next up for the J-Hawks (4-2): The Jefferson Classic. They're scheduled to play four games this weekend against Newton (4 p.m.) and Burlington (8:30 p.m.) Friday and against Indianola (4:45 p.m.) and New London (6:15 p.m.) Saturday.
If Jefferson continues to win and games aren't rained out, the earliest Niemeyer could reach 2,000 would be next Friday at the next Jefferson Classic.
