Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring a benefit four-person best shot golf tournament called Chip-In for Kids at Gardner Golf Course on Thursday, June 24, 2010, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Dr. Tom Davis, former University of Iowa Men's Basketball coach, will be the special guest player. The public is invited to attend the silent auction that will be held during lunch following play.
The tournament is being held to raise funds to assist with recreation program fees for organizations, families and individuals with financial need. These funds help organizations who serve at-risk youth provide recreational programming in a group setting. They assist large families who may not meet financial assistance requirements and are unable to afford to register multiple children in swimming lessons, junior golf programs, art classes or youth leagues. They also cover the cost of swim passes for individuals and families who struggle to pay the remaining fee for a low-income swim pass.
