Mar. 2, 2015 3:54 pm
The University of Iowa received three top seeds for the upcoming conference tournament.
Thomas Gilman, Brandon Sorensen and Sammy Brooks earned top pre-seeds for this weekend's Big Ten Championships, which the conference announced Monday. The Big Ten tournament is Saturday and Sunday at Ohio State's St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Gilman and Brooks are sophomores at 125 and 184. Sorensen, who red-shirted last season, is a freshman at 149. None of them were in the Hawkeyes' postseason lineup last year.
All 10 Hawkeyes received pre-seeds that were seventh or better. Along with the top-seeded trio, three-time conference finalist Mike Evans (174) is third and Nathan Burak at 197 and heavyweight Bobby Telford are each fourth. All-American Cory Clark is fifth at 133. Josh Dziewa is sixth at 141. Mike Kelly and Nick Moore, a Big Ten runner-up last year, are seeded seventh at 157 and 165, respectively.
The host Buckeyes also have three No. 1 seeds in Logan Stieber (141), Bo Jordan (165) and 197-pounder Kyle Snyder. The other top seeds include Minnesota's Chris Dardanes (133), Isaiah Martinez, of Illinois, at 157, Nebraska 174-pounder Robert Kokesh and Wisconsin's heavyweight Connor Medbery.
