University of Iowa heavyweight Bobby Telford has added another weekly honor from his performance in the last week.
Telford posted a 7-0 record last week and was named USA Wrestling's Wrestler of the Week, which was released Monday by www.themat.com.
Telford defeated two ranked wrestlers, including previously top-ranked Mike McMullan, of Northwestern, in the finals to claim his first individual title at the Midlands Championships Dec. 30. He added a 6-2 win over Rutgers' No. 9 Billy Smith. Telford, a two-time All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier, capped the week Sunday with a 4-0 win over Ohio State's 10th-ranked Nick Tavanello in the Hawkeyes' 18-14 win over the fifth-ranked Buckeyes.
Telford improved to 16-0 and also shared Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honors last week with Indiana's Taylor Walsh.
