Stokes adds Iowa to official-visit list

MARION - Kiah Stokes has decided on her fifth and final official college visit.It's the University of Iowa.The highly recruited all-state basketball player from Linn-Mar said Tuesday that she will visit Iowa City, probably the weekend of Oct. 22-24.“I'm looking forward to it,” she said. “Coach (Lisa) Bluder is very flexible about my schedule.”Stokes, a 6-foot-3 post who led Linn-Mar to the Class 4A state championship in March, has visited Tennessee and Maryland.She also has visits lined up with Georgia (Oct. 8-10) and defending national champion Connecticut (Oct. 15-17).“Both of the first two visits, I got to talk to the coaches, hang out with the girls and see how everything works,” Stokes said. “I really liked (Tennessee) Coach (Pat Summitt), and Maryland's facilities are great. Their arena, their weight room, their academic area … all the academic stuff you'd ever need … it's all right there together.”Maryland is coached by Cedar Rapids native Brenda Frese.Stokes is ranked the 42nd-best senior in the nation by ESPN's hoopgurlz.com. Her father, Greg, played at Iowa in the early 1980s.According to Julie Saddler, Stokes' mother, Kiah had a home visit from UConn last week and home visits have been scheduled with Georgia, Tennessee and Maryland this week. Iowa coaches will make a home visit next week.
