CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS
Colo-Nesco 38, Lynnville-Sully 34
The fourth-ranked Royals (24-1) opened the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 32-25 lead, then sidestepped a late outside-shooting barrage.
Caitlin Riese accumulated 19 points and 13 rebounds for the winners.
No. 6 Lynnville-Sully (21-4) rallied from a 22-13 deficit by scoring the final 10 points of the third quarter. Colo-Nesco countered for a seven-point lead before the Hawkettes tied it at 34 on Madison Rasmussen's 3-pointer with 2:20 left.
But Riese hit a tie-breaking free throw with 2:08 left, then added a basket at the 1:25 mark. Shayla Dean, who missed the front ends of two bonus situations, hit the first of two free throws to clinch it with 5 seconds to play.
Lysandra James led the Hawkettes with 11 points.
Newell-Fonda 73, Bedford 37
Renee Maneman tied a five-player state-tournament record with 13 assists as the top-ranked Mustangs turned it into a rout immediately.
A senior bound for Northwestern College, Maneman joined Tara Hupfeld of Cedar Rapids Jefferson (1993) and Gabbi Binion of Davenport Assumption (2008) in the 13-assist club, despite sitting out most of the fourth quarter of the lopside game.
Newell-Fonda (23-2) led 18-4 after one quarter, 44-13 at halftime. The Mustangs collected 26 assists on their 32 field goals.
Claudia Larsen and Hailey Falline paced the Mustangs with 16 points apiece. Maneman scored 13, Brianna Wells 10.Emily Weed led Bedford (17-8) with 12 points.
Janesville 58, Rockford 46
Second-rated Janesville made a winner out of its state debut, getting a double-double from Brittany Hanson and pulling away in the second half.
Hanson posted 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (24-1). Victoria Leyh led all scorers with 14 points; Mary Hovenga came off the bench to score 12.
Madison Wood paced Rockford (17-8) with 13 points and 12 boards.
Many of Janesville's players were key components to the team that won a 1A state volleyball crown in November.
Burlington Notre Dame 90, Adair-Casey 50
A 37-point third quarter turned a reasonably competitive game into a blowout, and the No. 3 Nikes (22-3) reached the semifinals for the second straight year.
Notre Dame shot 58 percent, including 70 percent (21 of 30) in the second half.Taylor Hickey scored 27 points. Riley Kilbride added 16, Courtney Coffin 10.
London Vais posted 23 points and 10 rebounds for Adair-Casey (23-4).
CLASS 2A QUARTERFINAL
Hudson 84, Woodbury Central 75
The Pirates won a shootout on Monday night, hitting 58 percent of their shots in the second half to pull away from Woodbury Central.
Abby Hilmer scored 23 points, Lindsey Koch added 20 on four three-pointers, and Casey Miles stuffed the stat sheet for Hudson with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. The Pirates went ahead by 12 early in the fourth quarter, but Woobury Central battled back and cut the lead to six at one point.
But Hudson turned defense into offense all game, scoring 25 points off turnovers to Woodbury Central's 8. Kristin Hubert made 6 of 11 three-pointers to score 20 for Woodbury Central.
