CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
Western Christian 66, Des Moines Christian 53
The top-ranked Wolfpack (25-1) took their first step toward a third straight championship, holding off a solid challenge from unranked Des Moines Christian.
Jamie Gesink (19 points, eight rebounds) and Alissa Pollema (16 points, nine boards) led the charge. Western led 38-30 at halftime and maintained an advantage of around 10 points the rest of the way.
Sara Juhl paced Des Moines Christian (20-5) with 15 points. Beth Zimmer and Brittany Zimmer added 14 apiece.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
Crestwood 54, Bondurant-Farrar 41
After recovering from an early deficit to get even, 19-19, at halftime, second-ranked Crestwood pulled away in the second half for its first state-tournament win in four tries.
Savannah Lentz and Madison Sickles scored 15 points apiece to lead the Cadets (22-2). Tessa Anderson posted 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cadets outscored No. 8 Bondurant-Farrar (19-6), 20-11, in the fourth quarter.Ashley Burrows scored 16 points for the Lady Jays.
Unity Christian 60, Clear Lake 35
The Knights pulled away with a strong second half to earn the school's first state tournament win.No. 6 Unity (21-4) built an eight-point halftime lead behind 12 first-half points from Kassidy DeJong. No. 3 Clear Lake scored the first seven points of the second half to trim that lead to one point, but the Knights outscored them 35-11 the rest of the way.DeJong finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Unity Christian. Chanda Zomermaand added 12 points and Anna Kiel scored 10.Trudy Peterson led Clear Lake (22-3) with 11 points, but the Lions shot just 3-for-20 on 3-pointers and just 29.5 percent from the field.
CLASS 4A QUARTERFINALS
Harlan 52, North Scott 50
Jordyn Moser hit a 15-footer with 0.6 seconds remaining as the top-ranked Cyclones (24-0) escaped.Last year's 4A runners-up, the Cyclones came back from a 30-23 halftime deficit behind junior post Jess Schaben, who accumulated 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks.Moser added 13 points, as did Taylor Wagner.Rachel Edmundson and Evan Hundley scored 10 points apiece for 10th-rated North Scott (17-7).
Carlisle 53, Dallas Center-Grimes 40
The story of the tournament just keeps getting better.
No. 6 Carlisle came back from an early 16-2 deficit, took the lead in the final 3 minutes, and avenged a 35-point early-season loss to the fourth-rated Fillies.Winless in the regular season a year ago (it did win a postseason game to finish 1-22), Carlisle improved to 20-6. Payton Keeney led the way with 12 points. Freshman point guard Agatha Beier added 11 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, scoring the go-ahead basket with 2:43 to go.
Carlisle closed the game with a 12-2 run.Dani Heritage scored 15 points for DCG (21-3).
