Some Iowa practice video and pointless observations

IOWA CITY — In 'Caddyshack' there's a bit about 'Caddy Day' at the Bushwood swimming pool. The caddies had free run of the pool from 1 to 1:15 p.m.
That was Monday morning at Iowa football practice. It was open to media for 15 minutes for video and photography. It didn't end with a Baby Ruth floating on the shallow end, but you can't help but see things.
— Players not playing: Freshman defensive end Levi Duwa has suffered a serious shoulder injury. He had his left arm in a sling and immobilizer. I think it was 99.9 percent that he was redshirting this season, but now it's probably a sure thing.
TE Nate Wieting and LB Jack Hockaday didn't participate. Neither injury looked serious. We might get a little clarity next weekend with Kid's Day and an open scrimmage at Kinnick Stadium.
— As far as QB goes, sophomore Nathan Stanley took the first walk-through rep with the first team. Junior Tyler Wiegers took the second.
I'm not sure this says anything, but Stanley is listed No. 1 on the depth chart and is taking the first rep.
— A.J. Epenesa looks very comfortable playing Division I football. He ran No. 2 defensive end in walk through. The drill didn't break for the true freshman trying to figure out how to line up. He seems all business and that's exactly what you want.
— Junior DE Matt Nelson was in uniform, but wasn't doing a lot. He fought foot problems in the spring. Might be something there. I did ask Kirk Ferentz about Nelson in Chicago, and he said he was fine.
— At RB, Akrum took first reps and split with redshirt freshman Toren Young. James Butler and Toks Akinribade were second reps.
— Matt VandeBerg, Nick Easley (he's put together) and Devonte Young were first-rep wideouts.
— Max Cooper was the only frosh WR working with the No. 2s, which also included Young and Adrian Falconer.
— At TE, Noah Fant, T.J. Hockenson and Peter Pekar were first-teamers. Jon Wisnieski, Shaun Beyer and Nate Vejvoda were the No. 2s.
— This was a walk-through, but during one rep, Epenesa was inserted at DE and junior Parker Hesse moved inside to tackle. Tackle was pretty much Nathan Bazata and Cedrick Lattimore.
— Former Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers great Aaron Kampman was at practice. Looks like he could still play.
— Incoming freshman Camron Harrell was in a black jersey. Harrell was ticketed for defense, but now it looks like WR.
— Freshman Matt Hankins was a 2 at cornerback.
— Sophomore Ryan Boyle took snaps as the second-team QB.
OK, 15 minutes are up. Out of the pool.
