Simeon Carter transferring from Iowa State

AMES — Iowa State sophomore Simeon Carter is transferring, the school announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8, 227-pound forward played in six men's basketball games this season and averaged 2.3 minutes and 1.0 points.

'I met with Simeon following the season and he informed me of his desire to transfer,' Iowa State Coach Steve Prohm said in a statement. 'We wish him the best and will assist him in any way we can as he looks for a new school.'

Carter, a Charlotte, N.C., native, played in 15 games as a freshman, but never cracked the rotation in his two years in Ames. Freshmen Solomon Young moved past Carter upon his arrival last summer, and midyear enrollee Cameron Lard is on track to earn minutes next fall.

With Carter's departure, none of Iowa State's freshman signees in the 2015 class remain. Guard Nick Noskowiak and the Cyclones mutually parted ways and Brady Ernst transferred to a junior college at the end of last year.

Prohm accepted the ISU job in June, and signed Carter and Ernst at the end of the summer.

Iowa State signed incoming freshmen Lindell Wigginton, Terrence Lewis and Darius McNeill this winter.

Carter's intention to transfer leaves the Cyclones with four open scholarships in this spring period.
