Settlement reached, Lombardi suspended

DES MOINES -- The coaching license of former Cedar Rapids Washington coach/teacher Tony Lombardi has been suspended until Aug. 1, 2014, according to a document released by the Iowa Department of Educational Examiners.Lombardi resigned as football and baseball coach last spring amid charges of unethical practices. No sanctions were placed on his teaching license.In order to resolve the matter without proceeding to a hearing, Lombardi and the Iowa Department of Educational Examiners agreed to a stipulation and order, which was signed Dec. 5 by both Lombardi and Duane McGee, executive director of the department.Lombardi arrived at Washington in 2006, coaching the football team seven seasons and the baseball team for two. He is now employed in private business in the Des Moines area. His family resides in the West Des Moines Valley school district.
