Nomination is open for The Gazette's 2012 Male and Female Athletes of the Year.This is the 30th installment of the awards, first handed out in 1983. Last year's winners were Derrick Loveless of Solon and Kiah Stokes of Linn-Mar.In the past, winners have been announced in August. This year, we intend to announce finalists on June 17, the winners on June 24.Coaches and athletics directors are asked to send nominations by the end of the week. Only seniors are eligible. Academic achievement and character are considered, along with athletic accomplishment.Please send nominations to Jeff Linder at
