Ohio State outscored No. 11 Iowa by 21 points in the second half, and sent the Hawkeyes tumbling to their first losing streak of the season, 100-82, last night at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Iowa (21-6, 12-4 Big Ten) have lost two straight on the road in Big Ten play.
'You have to score with Ohio State, because they are so explosive offensively, and we just didn't the second half,” Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder said.
The Hawkeyes led 48-45 at halftime, but broke down defensively in the final 20 minutes. Ohio State (19-9, 11-5) shot 17 of 29 (58.6 percent) in the second half.
'We played defense the first time we played them,” Bluder said, referring to 73-65 win over Ohio State on Feb. 5 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. 'We just didn't tonight.”
Iowa led, 56-54, on a layup by Samantha Logic with 15:45 to play, before the Buckeyes went on a 14-2 run.
The Hawkeyes shot 31.6 percent in the second half (12 of 38), including just 1 of 12 from 3-point range.
'They were much more aggressive defensively,” Bluder said. 'They took away drives a lot better.”
Logic led Iowa with 23 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. Bethany Doolittle had 18 points, Ally Disterhoft 15, and Whitney Jennings 14.
The Hawkeyes return home - where they are undefeated - to face Wisconsin this Thursday.
With Iowa's loss, Maryland clinched the Big Ten Championship. The Terrapins are 15-0 in league play.
The Hawkeyes are in second place, a half-game ahead of Rutgers and up one on Minnesota and Ohio State.
'It is a crazy league; so good,” Bluder said.
