Saints focusing on ‘team’ in 2015

CEDAR RAPIDS - The bond between teammates is said to be as strong as the bond between family members.
Most of Xavier's softball team has had one to two years to get to know each other and build team chemistry. Xavier lost only three seniors to graduation last year, meaning this year's starting lineup is similar to last year.
It is not just the seniors who lead this team. The sophomores and juniors also step up to keep the team focused on its goals.
'Our team has a very strong bond because we all have put in a lot of time and effort whether it is in the weight room or on the field,” junior catcher Stephanie Wehr said.
Wehr has been the starting catcher for the Saints the last two seasons. She is one of leaders when it comes to the team's morale during games and practice.
Wehr has been off to a slow start swinging the bat with a .280 batting average. This does not stop her positive attitude, however. Wehr is in the dugout leading cheers to get her team fired up.
The entire Saints dugout is banging on the fence, making as much noise as possible. These rowdy efforts keep the game fun and help the Saints stay focused on their job.
'Getting support from my teammates in the dugout is easily one of the best parts about softball,” Wehr said.
Wehr is making big plays behind the plate with two foul ball catches against Waterloo East. She is 1 for 2 in stolen bases and has zero errors behind the plate.
The Saints are 8-8 heading into tonight's game at Dubuque Senior.
