CEDAR RAPIDS - The time is here and the lanes are ready.
It is bowling season.
The Xavier boys' team started their season Nov. 24 with a loss to Iowa City West at May City Bowl.
'Our number one goal is to see how far we can go after we lost our two seniors last year,” Coach Russ Camacho said.
This year, there are 23 boys' bowlers. The Saints finished second last year at the state competition and they hope to carry over that success this year.
'Our team's main goal is to get back to the place that we were last year,” junior Michael Buenzow said. 'Even though we lost important seniors, we hope to work hard as a team to improve our scores and do better than last year.
'Bowling is a sport that you feed off of your teammates. With losing these seniors, it will be a little bit more difficult to create the chemistry we had last year.”
The Xavier girls' team also is ready for the challenge.
'We just want to do better than we did last year and win more games,” sophomore Abby Scott said.
Practicing each week to get better, the girls are striving to create a good relationship between one another so they are able to work well together during a game.
'Our goal for this season is to create a group of girls that match well together and get better every day,” Camacho said.
The girls' opened their season, as well, on Nov. 24 and also lost to West.
'This is my fifth year bowling, but my first year with Xavier and I am excited to see how far our team goes,” freshman Ella Schrader said.
There are eight girls this year and the team consists of all sophomores and freshman.
