S.C. North's Tomscha Gatorade Player of Year

Gatorade has named Sioux City North senior shortstop Damek Tomscha its prep baseball player of the year for the state of Iowa.
Tomscha helped North to the Class 4A state title last season, hitting .456. He was named a first-team all-stater.
According to its press release, the Gatorade award "recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field ..."
Tomscha has a 3.52 GPA.
Previous Gatorade winners in the state include former Iowa City High shortstop Jon Gilmore and former West Delaware pitcher B.J. Hermsen.
