It took a while, but Kelsey Dircks accustomed herself to the U.S. Cellular Center surroundings.Dircks hit three 3-pointers in the final 9 minutes as Class 3A 13th-ranked Solon rallied past Iowa City Regina, 50-42, at Rivalry Saturday.
"At the beginning of the game, my shots weren't falling," Dircks said. "It was the change of environment, I think. But with more repetition, it finally came for me."Solon (13-2) trailed 34-27 late in the third quarter, then held Regina (13-3) to five points in the fourth quarter, none in the final 4:20.Courtney Holub's free throw with 4:09 left broke a 42-all tie, and the Lady Spartans controlled the rest of the game.Regina's Zoe Dutchik registered 20 points and 15 rebounds, but that wasn't enough to overcome the Regals' 28 turnovers. Solon collected 19 steals, seven by Danielle Herdliska."Our press, it's just a part of the way we play," said Solon Coach Mark Sovers. "We have too good of athletes to not get after people. When the press is working, we can do a lot of good things."Dircks paced the Lady Spartans with 15 points. Herdliska added 11.
