Sept 8 - The Baltimore Ravens said on Monday the team has terminated its contract with running back Ray Rice, according to the team's official Twitter feed.
The action comes after a video surfaced that appears to show Rice striking his then-fiance inside an elevator at an Atlantic City, New Jersey, casino in February.
The National Football League earlier had suspended Rice for the first two games of the regular season as punishment for the incident, based on a surveillance video taken outside the elevator. The suspension sparked a firestorm of criticism that the penalty was too lenient. (Reporting By Frank McGurty in New York)
