NORTH LIBERTY - The Prime Time League has underwent almost as many changes as the Big 12 Conference in the last few weeks. But, as in the case of the Big 12, it's still alive.
The league originally planned to go from six teams to four, but enough players were available for PTL Commissioner Randy Larson to move back to the original six teams this year. The league will continue at the North Liberty Recreation Center.
The league will feature at least two incoming Iowa players on five of the six squads.
Brennan Cougill will team with Devyn Marble on Iowa City Ready Mix; Matt Gatens, Andrew Brommer and walk-on Branden Stubbs will play for Jill Armstrong, Cully Payne and walk-on Jordan Stoermer will play for McCurrys/Mike Gatens, and Eric May and Zach Mc-Cabe will team with walk-on Darius Stokes and potential walk-on Khirey Floyd and on L.L. Pelling. Melsahn Basabe and walk-on Andre Murphy will play for Culver's, while Devon Archie will play for Vinton Merchants.
Only Gatens, Brommer, Payne, Archie and May played in the league last year. Returning center Jarryd Cole will not play after off-season knee surgery. New Iowa signee Bryce Cartwright is finishing summer classes and is unlikely to compete in the league.
NCAA rules allow only two returning players from one college team to compete on a roster. The league also changed its weekly schedule from Monday-Wednesday to Sunday-Tuesday. Tonight's games start at 6. Among the key matchups include Gatens' squad against Marble's team, and Basabe and May going head-to-head.
