Previewing the Warrior Invitational volleyball tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Washington High School will host a 14-team volleyball tournament Saturday.

Cedar Rapids Xavier is the defending champion.

Two teams were ranked in the preseason IGHSAU ratings -- Solon and Marion were rated eighth and 10th in Class 3A.

Here are the pools:

Pool A: Cedar Rapids Xavier, Sigourney, Oskaloosa, Davenport Central.

Pool B: Cedar Rapids Prairie, Linn-Mar, Davis County, Solon.

Pool C: Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Marion, Cedar Rapids Washington.

Pool D: Johnston, Dyersville Beckman, North Fayette.

Note: Pools C & D will play cross-divisional matches only.

The event gets under way at 9 a.m., with bracket play scheduled to start at 3 p.m. The championship match is a 6 p.m.

Elsewhere, Iowa City High hosts a tournament that features the Class 4A second-ranked Little Hawks and No. 3 Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
