CEDAR RAPIDS -- If you can see the replay, do so by all means.Local TV. Game film. Youtube. Whatever.Find it. Watch it. Enjoy it.DeMetrius Harper capped a wild, zany first half with a whirling, dancing, 90-yard kickoff return, and Jace Hanna completed his first 13 passes in a 333-yard performance as Cedar Rapids Prairie outscored Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 41-33, in a Mississippi Valley Conference non-divisional football game Friday night at Kingston Stadium."I can't wait to see it," said Harper, who also caught 13 of Hanna's 21 completions. "They said I made six circles. I think it was more like three."It was a breathtaking, ankle-breaking return. It wasn't anything Prairie Coach Mike Morrissey hadn't seen before."In practice, we see stuff like that quite a bit," Morrissey said. "He's a good athlete that has been waiting for this moment."Prairie improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009. That team stumbled from there, finishing 3-7.This team appears much more solid for the long haul.Hanna completed 21 of 27 passes, including his first 13. He threw four touchdown passes, three in a first half in which he accumulated 255 aerial yards."We put a lot of time in since last season (when the Hawks were 2-7), and it's all paying off," Hanna said.Harper's return capped a second quarter that featured three touchdowns by each team.Kennedy (0-2 for the third straight year), had crept within 28-19 on Riley Fergus' 31-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Frazier-Flores. The Cougars kicked to Harper, who gathered the ball at the left hash on the 10-yard line. The next few moments consisted of a few jukes, a few jives, a couple broken tackles, then a sprint down the near sideline.Watch it. You must."I'm not much of a dancer," Harper insisted. The meeting was the teams' first since 2007, and it will be remembered as an offensive showcase.Prairie finished with 446 yards; Kennedy accumulated 358. Neither team coughed up a turnover.Hanna was virtually perfect in the first half, completing 14 of 15 passes for three scores -- 29 yards to Dellamuth, 22 yards to Harper, then 69 yards to Jarred Edmonds on a play in which four Cougars missed tackles."You can't count on open-field tackling," said Kennedy Coach Tim Lewis. "That's a potent team."Kennedy fell despite 224 rushing yards and two touchdowns by Alex Hillyer. Fergus and Frazier-Flores hooked up for three TDs.Hillyer's final touchdown got Kennedy within one possession at 41-33 with 3:27 to go, but the Cougars never got the ball back.Jesse Vizzini recovered the onside kick, then Prairie twice converted on third-and-9.Kennedy meets fifth-ranked Iowa City West on Thursday in its Mississippi Division opener; Prairie faces Cedar Rapids Xavier on Friday in a Valley Division encounter.
